Photographs present themselves everywhere. To capture these moments,
the photographer has to be there with a camera.
My style of photography has always aimed at simplicity, using available light, and trying to be unobtrusive. I aim to work in the spirit of Oskar Barnack, who invented the original Leica 1 camera, which was designed to be small and unobtrusive. All the pictures in the Urban, Transported and Pattern series are taken with cheap 'point and shoot' cameras that I carry with me at all times. The capability of these cameras goes way beyond what Barnack could have imagined when he invented 35mm photography in the early 20th century. I aspire to be one-hundredth as good a photographer as Henri Cartier-Bresson. I try to work in the spirit of the renowned designer and teacher Alexey Brodovitch. |
